And the piano AGAIN!!!!!

I guess I'll stop apologizing for the delayed posts. It looks like every 8 weeks is going to be the best I can do. : )

Ok - on to what you are all really here for...Sawyer. He is officially on the MOVE. Sawyer started crawling the week before Thanksgiving @ approximately 8.5 months old. Since then we've had to increase our "border patrol" to keep him from crossing over into hostile territory. Let me start by saying that there is no such thing as a "baby proof" house. No matter how hard you try, there are only levels of "baby proof" ...."baby distract", "baby block" and "baby hold". At any given time we find ourselves doing one of these three things. Just because you put plugs in all the outlets and ties around all the cabinets doesn't mean there's nothing left for them to do. They invent things to get into. Things you never even thought about. Sawyer loves the dishwasher (lots of racks and wheels and shiny things), the door to the washing machine (makes good slammin' sounds), the dryer when open (small button just inside door that clicks and turns interior light on/off), the refrigerator (endless little bottles and drawers), the pantry (crap everywhere - water bottles, cans, potatoes, bags), the dog food bowl (contains finger size crunchies and upside down doubles as a drum), the wine rack (big heavy bottles, makes Mom come running) and last but not least the remote controls (lights, buttons and instantaneous reactions from Dad)! Managing Sawyer is a full time job to say the least. Even the dog has become part of the "border patrol", Kacie is an incredible source of "baby-distract" as is the piano. The piano is especially nice because we can hear where he is even if we can't see him.

Sawyer had his first nasty cold over Christmas, which he promptly spread to me and all the visiting in-laws. As soon as the cold subsided he contracted the "stomach flu" which he promptly passed to me, John and Grandma Heide. Then there was another round of colds following the stomach flu. Gotta love babies and their germs! Oh well, I suppose it goes with the territory. I can't imagine what it would be like if he actually went to daycare!

Stats to date:

  • Sawyer is now 10 months old
  • He weighs ~ 25 lbs (80 percentile in weight)
  • He is 31 inches tall (95 percentile in height) We're fairly certain he's going to be built like Grandpa Milbauer - long and lean!
  • Eight teeth and his bottom molars are just below the surface
  • Physical skills - crawling, pulling up, cruising, playing piano, playing drums, clapping
  • Verbal skills - dad dad dad, pbbbffff, nana, he puckers and whistles (purely by accident, but he does occasionally get out a good whistle), dogdogdog (slight variation to dad dad dad, but sounds pretty convincing) and there is another new noise I can't quite describe but it sounds similar to how you roll R's in spanish

As for John and I, we're both doing well. (When we're not sick!) I'm starting a new job on January 21st. Although it is with the same company (Talecris Biotherapeutics) it is a promotion and definitely has added responsibility. I'll be going in to work earlier so John will be taking on morning duty and hopefully I'll be able to get off earlier to handle evening duty. Wish us luck!

Sawyer is growing into quite the little man! It is amazing to see him moving around and very funny to imagine the daily chess match between him and the Sawyer-stopping contraptions. Although, it doesn't seem that "stopping" is an accurate description of what really goes on :).

Congrats on the new position! Sounds like you guys are doing well. Hope to catch up soon.

Hey you guys! Congrats Andrea on your promotion! Thanks for sharing this blog with us. It is great to catch up this way and see how Sawyer is doing despite our busy schedules. Sawyer is such a smart, handsome, happy little man. Ava Mae says she is so glad she lives near him. She finds him interesting and looks forward to learning more about him in future playdates.

Take Care!
