Happy 1st Birthday, Griffin!

It's MY birthday and I've got MY birthday BALLOON!!!!!

"What do you mean I'm not ZERO anymore??!!"

Sawyer helping make cupcakes for Griffy's party.

"Ummm, Mom. That cupcake appears to be on fire."

"Are you all mad??!!! Don't just hold my hands...quick somebody DO something!"

"Hmmmm, not bad for being set on fire."

"Not bad at all...."

The chocolate ones are even better!

Happy Birthday to me!

Well, believe it or not Griffin is one year old. Amazing. The first year always seems to fly by. He's not quite walking on his own yet, but is getting there slowly and surely. At his one year check up he weighed just over 20 lbs (20 lbs 4 oz), so he's still quite a little guy. That puts him at about the 25th percentile for weight. (But at least he weighed enough to start using his forward facing car seat.) He was 30.5 inches long, which puts him in the 75th percentile for height. He also has 7 teeth. Four on top and three on bottom. It seems like he's had those bottom three forever. We call them the Trifecta, because the three of them are perfectly centered. A fourth tooth might acually throw his mouth completely off balance! ;)

Griffin is starting to sign. He knows the sign for "milk" and "all done". We're working on eat. For now he just yells and points at what he wants. Little barbareon. Hey, it works, so I guess he is communicating!

Griffin is definitely the little comedian in the family. He laughs perfectly on cue, considering he has no idea what we're laughing about, and he has a loud, hearty laugh. Griffin makes the funniest faces and the silliest noises. He blows sweet kisses, but will also point at you and make the sound of a shooting weapon/explosion! (I think he's been listening to his brother...) When he dances (and he dances to just about any beat or rhythm) he shimmies his little shoulders, some say similar to how his great grandma Alberta used to dance!
Well, that's it for now. Our Christmas/New Year post is coming soon so stay tuned!

Andrea and John headed to an 80's costume party
(Nice pegged pants, John!)

Fall has been wonderful, full of all the usual fun we've come to expect...fall leaves, pumpkins, CANDY and costumes! Sawyer had a blast this Halloween in his Batman costume and was thrilled to have Griffin as his official side-kick, Robin. (Especially since every house we visited insisted on giving him an extra piece of candy on Robin's behalf!) John and I even had a chance to dress up to attend an 80's theme party at a friends house. We had a lot of fun and ran into the likes of Axel Rose, Cindy Lauper, Vanilla Ice, Tina Turner, Richard Simmons, Madonna and Boy George!
Beyond that we've both been busy with work and Sawyer has been busy in pre-school. He is full time in pre-school now and is learning SO much. Sawyer has taken a liking to math and is quite good at it. (At this age "math" consists of counting, matching numbers to the number of items, counting sides and corners/angles of shapes etc) They also have a computer in his classroom and I find him there almost every afternoon. He is a master at working the mouse, although he is left handed and "mouses" with his right hand. Sawyer is also very into puzzles right now. He can put 25-30 piece puzzles together all by himself.
Griffin is growing like a weed. Starting to take steps, but not confident enough to truly take off. When he does take a tumble he just bounces right back up and gets back to it. Tough little guy. John has nicknamed him Scrappy. Very apt name. I think that ones gonna stick...
Well, that is all for now. Griffin's birthday post will be up next so keep checking back!
Happy Fall!

P.S. Sawyer and I were having a discussion one day about fall and everything that happens in the fall. So I brought up Thanksgiving and asked Sawyer if he knew what Thanksgiving was...he quickly replied "Yep. That's when you give thanks for all the candy you got at Halloween!" When his teachers at school asked what he was thankful for he replied, "I'm thankful for Griffin." I think he's got the right idea about Thanksgiving. ; )
